What I liked

Honestly, after spending five years here, the biggest plus is the absolute job security. Since we operate in the essential services sector under strict NGT and CPCB regulations, the business is incredibly stable. We don't see the kind of volatile layoffs that happen in tech or retail, which gives a lot of peace of mind. Tbh, the technical exposure you get here is top-notch. Working with hazardous waste and learning the ins and outs of EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) protocols is a niche skill that’s really valued in India’s industrial corridors like GIDC. It definitely makes you more employable in the long run. I also appreciate the defined shift regularity for our operational teams. Unlike the service industry where hours are all over the place, we have a structured rotation that provides a predictable routine for the plant staff. It’s also great to see how we help other manufacturing units stay compliant with environmental laws. The work feels impactful because we are literally cleaning up industrial waste. We have built some great professional relationships within the industrial belts over the years.

Areas for improvement

The commute is probably the toughest part of the job. Most of our processing facilities are tucked away in the industrial outskirts or GIDC zones where public transport is basically non-existent. Even with the company buses, you’re spending a lot of time on heavy-traffic routes, which can be pretty exhausting after a long day. Another thing is that the promotion cycle is kinda old-school. It’s a traditional Indian corporate setup where seniority and tenure often take precedence over fast-track merit. If you're looking for a quick jump in rank, it might feel a bit slow because the hierarchy is very defined. Also, work-life balance definitely takes a hit during the high-pressure audit periods. When state boards or environmental agencies come for compliance checks, it's all hands on deck. We end up doing mandatory overtime and even weekends to ensure all the regulatory documentation is perfect. Tbh, the paperwork during these times is massive. There are also limited oppurtunities for remote work given the nature of our operations, so you really have to be physically present at the sites most of the time.
